Tempers boiled over between Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Nedum Onuoha in the MLS with the LA Galaxy star reportedly threatening to hurt the former Manchester City defender.

Ibrahimovic had the final say in the game as he scored the winner for the Galaxy against Real Salt Lake, but he may have overstepped the mark during the game in his angry exchanges with Onuoha.

The two squared up after the former Manchester United man looked to have caught Onuoha with an outstretched arm - leading to both sets of players squaring up to each other.

Ibrahimovic was booked, but then went straight to Onuoha after scoring the winner and celebrating right in the defender's face.

The Swedish superstar went to apologise to Onuoha after the game, but the Real Salt Lake man he would not accept his apology.

"He came in to apologise after the game, because from 60 minutes in, he's saying he's going to do me, he's going to hurt me for that game," Onuoha said.

"This is a guy who is the face of MLS, as he calls himself, and he plays that way on the field. If someone comes in and says that to me, I'm not going to accept his apology. It's unacceptable."

The bravado was back for Ibrahimovic after the game, when he told the media: "what happens on the field stays on the field" in his post-match comments.

He added: "I like to feel alive. I like when it becomes duels and that because sometimes, not that I fall asleep, but I don't feel alive if they don't activate me.

"They need to activate me or else it becomes too easy. I know me. When I get angry I feel good."
